Organizing Curriculum…

One of the challenges that I have faced in our homeschooling life is organizing my abundance of curriculum. (I tend to over-buy, PLUS… with having two girls seven years apart I’m holding onto a LOT of material.) If you’ve ever gone to a homeschool convention and bought a book, only to go home and find it sitting on your shelf, you should understand my pain.

I also have become  pretty eclectic over the years. Especially when it comes to language arts. I love to pull my favorite materials together and create my own scope and sequence. Oftentimes I get carried away and we end up with too much language arts.

NOW I am attempting to list my curriculum in Edu-Track under Student Data.

  • Click: Curriculum
  • List each piece of curriculum that you plan to use. Be sure to enter the start date based on the school year that you will be using the book for. I list most books as August 1, other smaller pieces need to be staggered out every couple of months for them to show up in the order that I want to use them. For example, we started to use Critical Thinking’s Word Roots B1 in the fall of 2009 and started Word Roots B2 in January 2010.

I’m just getting started! Hope to keep you updated in the future…

Edu-Track revisited…

Probably about 4 years ago I purchased Edu-Track Home School Software. I had great plans of inputting (is that even a word?) all of my oldest daughter’s high school records, her grades, her curriculum… everything needed to produce beautiful, impressive transcripts. Awww well…

I ended up using MS Word, MS Excel, and tons of notebook paper! For whatever reason, I didn’t really spend much time playing with Edu-Track and it ended up setting on my shelf.

The good news? We survived. My daughter graduated and has gone off to college. The even better news? I now have a second chance to play with Edu-Track.

My youngest daughter is finishing up 7th grade this spring, and thanks to the encouragement of a very dear friend I’ve pulled E-T back off of the shelf. This time I’m having more fun! I’m enjoying the features of the software and I know that it will make record keeping so much easier!
